Taco 'Bout a Party
When my sweet boy turned 10, he announced that he wanted a "theme that's not really a theme" without many decorations. What's a party planner to do? We settled on a taco party, his favorite food in the world. And every decoration had to approved by the guest of honor. In addition to the obvious taco bar, we had rice krispie treats shaped like maracas, cupcakes topped with homemade fondant taco toppers, churros and lemon bars. Lemonade and limeade were served in margarita glasses rimmed in yellow sugar. I made a taco pinata which was stuffed with more candy than you can imagine and a "pin the sour cream on the taco" game. The guests also played a straw and bean game and a tasting game where they guessed the taco condiments while blindfolded. For party favors, we made bespoke matchboxes with loteria cards on them, filled with two mini pokemon figures, and a Hershey's bar covered with custom paper. Decorations included custom-made balloon streamers, papel picado, cacti everywhere and a sarape as a tablecloth. The birthday boy himself made the thumbprint designs for the food signs and party favors.
